About Us

Laurel House Surgery (LHS) has been a part of the local community since 1910. The surgery has undergone many changes over the years and is now home to 5 male and 2 female doctors. We also have an advanced nurse practitioner, an in house pharmacist, a physician associate and a first contact physiotherapist. Our nursing team consists of 2 nurses, 2 HCA ‘s and 1 phlebotomist.

Laurel House is proud to be a training practice, helping develop junior doctors into the GPs of tomorrow. These are highly qualified and competent doctors who have made the decision to pursue a career in general practice. Our trainees are always supported by one of the senior GPs at the practice to ensure that we maintain our high standards.

Every member of our staff strives on a daily basis to honour our core values, which can be represented by the acronym RESPECT:

  • Respect- we always show respect to our patients, colleagues and all stakeholders. We value every team member and the various skills they bring to LHS. We believe a respectful environment is key to an effective and highly motivated team.
  • Empathy- our patients reach out to us in times of need. Our role as your surgery is to listen, understand and then facilitate a solution. Empathy is a key value that you will encounter at every level of contact you have with LHS.
  • Safety- Safety from every point of view is our top priority. This includes offering appropriate appointments, medication reviews, safe prescribing habits, resolving issues with access and many other aspects.
  • Progressive- LHS is a forward thinking surgery. We always try to incorporate technology to help improve our patients’ health and experience at the surgery. We also see the changing landscape of general practice and try to future proof ourselves by having a multi-disciplinary team with many clinicians who have varied skill sets.
  • Engagement- We aim to foster an environment where our colleagues have opportunities to develop new skills and experiences, which in turn helps us to deliver better care. We look to engage our patients in setting expectations and helping them achieve these goals. We have an active patient participation group, which gives our patients another way to engage constructively with LHS.
  • Communication- General Practice is changing at a greater rate than ever before. We aim to communicate clearly with our patients about what is happening at LHS and how we are always striving to improve your care.
  • Trust- We always look to develop trust with our patients. This means LHS looks to display honesty, transparency and sincerity in all its interactions with patients.
