Referrals for ADHD and autism assessments for school-aged children
In line with current local NHS guidelines and referral pathways, we would like to advise that referrals for ADHD and autism assessments for school-aged children should typically come through the child’s school.
Schools are best placed to observe your child’s behaviour and interactions across different settings and over time. This enables them to gather the detailed information and evidence that specialist services require for a thorough and appropriate assessment. Referrals made directly from the school also help streamline the process and ensure the right level of support is put in place both before and after diagnosis, if one is made.
If you have concerns, we recommend arranging a meeting with your child’s class teacher or SENCo (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) They can begin monitoring your child’s needs and, if appropriate, initiate the attached referral to the relevant service.
As your GP surgery, we are still very much involved in your child’s overall healthcare and are happy to provide medical input or support documentation where needed.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
